Wandering Territory.

In Wandering Territory, a 3D digital model of a brown bear was converted into a 2D cardboard template before it was popped back into a sculptural form. its polygon sides unfloding like a map, illustrating the idea of migration and the contrast of the urban world against the curious animal's natural habitat. It was made in collaboration with packaging and display company Vinke. The bear is part of the Pop Up exhibition at MOTI, The Graphic Design museum in Breda, Holland, and will tour Europe. Wandering Territory appeared on the front cover of Holland's main newspaper De Volkskrant.

Make Someone Happy No. 1

Make Someone Happy - No.01 from Oh Joy on Vimeo.

"I'll never forget that morning 11 years ago as I watched the world change forever. As I took the subway from Brooklyn into Manhattan on my way to work, I watched it all unfold from my stalled train under the Manhattan Bridge. The ability to see the strength in people and the joy we can bring to one another when we're down came alive for me after that day. For the last few months, I've been thinking a lot about what brings me joy. Sure, I love a good polka dotted top or a great hair accessory...but making other people happy really tops that list. So, I've decided to start a new series called "Make Someone Happy". Once or twice a month, I'll share something you can make, do, say, or give someone simply to bring a smile to someone's face. Maybe it's something you do for someone you love...or maybe it's a for complete stranger. Those moments of happiness are so important to give others...especially on a day like today... "

Carved Book Landscapes.

Artist Guy Laramee (previously) has recently completed a number of new sculptural works where he transforms thick tomes into incredible topographical features including mountains, caves, volcanoes, and even water. Many of the works are part of a new project titled Guan Yin, a series of work dedicated to the forces that enable individuals to endure grief and pain, or in his words “the mysterious forces thanks to which we can traverse ordeals.” If you happen to be near Quebec, a number of Laramee’s works are currently on view at Expression gallery in Saint-Hyacinthe through August 12.
